Bawden Environmental Park

Welcome to The Scotland District

welcometo.jpg

We are an organic farm and alternative technology demonstration site located in the Scotland District, St. Andrew Parish, Barbados West Indies. We have been practicing and promoting sustainable rural development since 1997 - working with the land and the community, sharing our experience with others. We welcome visitors and school groups to tour the site, and we're always looking for volunteers to stay and help.

WHAT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PARK?

The Bawden Group is committed to bringing people together with the land. We take a collaborative, joyful approach to working with one another and nature. In this spirit, we are exploring the long-term potential of sustainable organic agriculture and "cottage industry" value-added production. Please explore our site to learn about our farm, our projects, sea island cotton at Bawdens, and to find out how you can visit and become involved.

The buildings of this former slave and sugar plantation are now managed by the community groups based in the area. The Environmental Park Group holds a secure lease agreement with the government agency responsible for the area.

Two magnificent evergreen trees adorn the plantation yard, having witnessed and survived several tropical storms and hurricanes.
